Putin to discuss violence in prisons at human rights council’s meeting

The human rights council will hold its first meeting after the rotation of its members on December 3

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin is due to hold a meeting of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights in the Kremlin on Tuesday.

"There are plans to discuss in particular the issues of Russian citizens’ rights violations abroad, intensifying the efforts of the state and society on eradicating the cases of unfounded violence in detention facilities," the Kremlin press service said.

The participants will also consider the results of implementing the concept of state policy on eternalizing the memory of political repressions’ victims and discuss the issue of developing a national plan in the sphere of human rights."

Also on Tuesday, Putin is scheduled to attend an opening ceremony of a monument to Alexander Solzhenitsyn in Moscow on occasion of the Russian writer’s 100th birthday anniversary.
