United Russia party proud of its contribution to Putin’s win in 2018 election - Medvedev

Russian Prime Minister dubbed the presidential election as a watershed event of the outgoing year

MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Russia’s ruling party, United Russia, is proud that it could make a contribution to Vladimir Putin’s victory in the 2018 presidential election and aspires to transition the energy of that victory into the energy of the country’s growth, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, the leader of the United Russia party, said at the party’s plenary meeting on Saturday.

Medvedev dubbed the presidential election as a watershed event of the outgoing year.

"For Russia, this choice has always been historical since it determines our fate and our future. This choice was obvious for the party," Medvedev said recalling that United Russia’s previous congress had set a goal of ensuring Putin’s sweeping victory at the election.

"We are proud that we could make our contribution to your, Vladimir Vladimirovich, victory," Medvedev said addressing Putin, who was attending the party’s congress.

"It was utterly important for us to transition the energy of that victory into the energy of the country’s development, a movement ahead in all directions - in the economy, healthcare and education, in cutting-edge technologies, in the development of cities, towns and villages, and in preserving the environment," the prime minister added.

"United Russia is a party of the public majority and [it] must have an upper hand in achieving the national growth targets," the prime minister said.

"It is both a privilege and responsibility for our party as the largest political force, as the party capable of making rather difficult decisions and acting in strategic interests of the country and most of its citizens," Medvedev said adding that United Russia, as Russia’s main political force, would do its utmost for the country’s growth.
