Putin informed Macron, Merkel about details of Kerch Strait incident - Kremlin aide

The Russian side described the incident as a provocation, but the Ukrainian authorities imposed martial law in some of Ukraine’s region

BUENOS AIRES, December 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin informed French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel about the details of the Kerch Strait incident when he met with them on the sidelines of the Group of Twenty summit in Argentina, Russian president’s aide Yuri Ushakov said on Sunday.

"I can tell that during his contacts with Macron and Merkel the president told about what had happened near Kerch in detail. Yes, he drew schemes to demonstrate how provocatively the Ukrainian military were acting," he said in an interview with the Rossiya 1 television channel.

In violation of the rules of passage via Russia’s territorial sea and the Kerch Strait, three warships of the Ukrainian Navy crossed Russia’s state border on November 25. The Russian side had to use weapons to compel the ships to stop. Three Ukrainian servicemen were lightly wounded. They received medical assistance. The ships were detained and escorted to the port of Kerch. A criminal case was initiated on border violation charges.

The Russian side described the incident as a provocation, but the Ukrainian authorities imposed martial law in some of Ukraine’s regions. Meanwhile, the European Union and NATO called for de-escalation of the situation.
