MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Moscow’s military court on Friday placed former head of the Russia defense ministry’s personnel department and former head of the CSKA (Central Army Sports Club) Mikhail Baryshev under a two-month arrest on charges of taking a 23.5 million ruble (around $355,000) bribe.

According to investigators, as an organizer of the 3rd International Army Games in 2016, Baryshev took bribes from private companies taking part in tenders for provision of services and commodities for the games.

"The sum of procurements for the games amounted to some 250 million rubles ($3.8 million), the sum of bribes and fraudulent activities was 23.5 million rubles," the investigator said, adding that the aggrieved party is CSKA.

Meanwhile, Baryshev denied accusations, saying he was slandered by other suspects, his former employees, charges against whom were brought in July. He also said he had made a big contribution to the development of Russia’s Armed Forces. Thus, he credited himself with the establishment of the youth organization Yunarmiya and being in charge of the organization of voting in the Russian presidential elections at the military base in Syria.

Baryshev was detained over embezzlement in CSKA. Other persons accused in this case are former head of CSKA Federal Autonomous Company Andrei Khamazin and head of CSKA’s transportation service Yury Mukhanov. Both face fraud and bribe-taking charges. In total, there are at least ten suspects in this case.
