Several senior Russian officials to visit India before end of 2018

The ambassador mentioned Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. India’s Ambassador to Russia Bala Venkatesh Varma stated that New Delhi expects the visit of Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev before the end of 2018.

"Our [parliamentary] speaker looks forward to welcoming His Excellency Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of the State Duma, in December, which could further strengthen our parliamentary ties," the ambassador said during the meeting with Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Konstantin Kosachev.

"These are not our only contacts between now and the end of the year. In mid-December, we await the visit of Defense Minister of Russia Mr. [Sergei] Shoigu to India. And a little before His Excellency Mr. Volodin’s visit, we expect the visit of [Russian Security Council Secretary] Mr. Patrushev," Varma added.

The Indian ambassador noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, which will take place on November 30-December 1.

"The calendar of contacts is very dense. There is a reason why this is so, because India and Russia have so much in common, but we also have a very active agenda. <…> In addition to our cooperation in defense, energy, nuclear energy and space, we want to diversify our economic relationship, build new partnerships in terms of the Russian Far East, strengthen our North-South corridor between Russia and India through Iran," the ambassador pointed out.
