MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev has said that the CIS member-countries have established the exchange of analytical information on the Islamic State (IS) and Al Qaeda terror groups (both outlawed in Russia) over the past year.
According to the press service of the Russian Security Council, he was speaking at an annual meeting of the CIS member-countries’ security chiefs.
"Patrushev stressed that, since the previous meeting in 2017, the CIS member-states organized the exchange of analytical information on events involving the Islamic State, Al Qaeda and affiliated networks in the Afghan-Pakistani border area and the Middle East," the press service said. During this period, the CIS member-states’ foreign ministers held meetings at the UN Security Council to discuss issues related to building regional partnership in Central Asia. "[The parties] discussed joint measures to foil the activities of international terrorist organizations during command-staff and practical counter-terrorism exercises," the Russian Security Council noted, adding that military-technical cooperation has been given a fresh impetus.
The participants in the meeting in Moscow discuss joint steps to curb the financing of terrorist activities, including efforts aimed at countering the legalization of proceeds from crime. The event’s agenda also includes other pressing regional security issues and cooperation between the CIS Security Councils.
