Russia, US should continue dialogue on arms control — ambassador

A diplomat stresses Russia and the United States should maintain dialogue

NEW YORK, November 16. /TASS/. Russia and the United States should maintain dialogue on a wide range of issues, including arms control and nonproliferation, amid current international ‘turbulence’, Russia’s Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said at an annual meeting of the US-Russia Economic Council on Friday.

"It is especially important now, when the architecture of treaties and agreements on arms control and non-proliferation became fractured. First and foremost, it involves the situations with the INF Treaty, the New START, the CTBT and the JCPOA, as well as other documents. There has not been an instance in history, when a collapse of arms control and non-proliferation agreements led to strengthening of global stability," Antonov said.

US businessmen are interested in mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation with Russia despite sanctions, he said.

"Yesterday’s talks [on the sidelines of the meeting - TASS] have showed interest of our US counterparts and guests from Moscow in a mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation. It is important for priorities and current business problems to remain in the limelight, when a lot of sanctions mechanisms are implemented against our country," the ambassador said.

He pointed out that his recent trips to California and Utah "confirm how essential are contacts between business circles, between regions of our countries, and their deficit is clearly showing." "We are ready to further develop dialogue with those US businessmen, who wish to continue cooperation with our country. We are interested in technology transfer, participation of US companies in development of our industry and infrastructure," Antonov pointed out.
