US envoy for Afghanistan planning to visit Moscow in December

A diplomat says US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad is planning to visit Moscow in early December

MOSCOW, November 12. /TASS/. US Special Representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad is planning to visit Moscow in early December, Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Second Asian Department Zamir Kabulov told TASS.

"The US Special Representative for Afghanistan is planning to come for a visit to us," Kabulov said. "This will be in early December, as he suggested," the diplomat told reporters after the second round of Moscow consultations on Afghanistan.

Kabulov has not ruled out that at the meeting with Khalilzad the sides could discuss drawing up a roadmap on the settlement in Afghanistan if the US envoy showed readiness for that.

The second Moscow consultations on Afghanistan were held on November 9. The meeting involved deputy foreign ministers, special representatives and observers from Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, the United States and Uzbekistan.

At the consultations Kabul was represented by the delegation of the Afghan High Peace Council, a public and political organization founded by former President Hamid Karzai for establishing dialogue with the Taliban. A delegation of the Taliban’s political office participated in the international meeting of this level for the first time ever.
