Moscow, Riyadh ready to strengthen political dialogue, says Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, November 6. /TASS/. Russia and Saudi Arabia seek to build up political cooperation, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, citing Russian Presidential Special Envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Russia Rayed Krimly.

"A handful of urgent issues on the Russian-Saudi bilateral agenda was raised, including further strengthening trustworthy political dialogue between Moscow and Riyadh," according to the statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the parties also discussed the situation in Syria and in the Persian Gulf states.

Russia and Saudi Arabia have been actively developing their bilateral relations in recent years. In October 2017, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud made an official visit to Russia and invited President Vladimir Putin to his country for further consultations.

On 22 October, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that preparations for Putin’s visit to Saudi Arabia continue, but it’s too early to provide exact dates.
