Russia calls for developing normal, full-fledged relations with US

The foreign ministry says Moscow "respects the choice of the American people; it is a domestic issue of the US."

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. Russia thinks that US midterm elections are a domestic affair of the country and calls for developing normal, full-fledged relations between Russia and the US, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated during Thursday’s press briefing.

"Speaking of the legislative elections in the US and other countries, it is a domestic process in all these states," she said in response to the question about Russia’s alleged meddling in the elections. "Our position on normal dialogue [with the US] based on mutual respect remains the same."

According to her, Moscow "respects the choice of the American people; it is a domestic issue of the US." "We call for developing normal, full-fledged relations with the USA based on mutual respect," the diplomat stressed.

On November 6, US citizens will reelect 35 out of 100 senators and all 435 members of the House of Representatives, as well as 39 governors of US states and territories. The midterm elections are taking place two years after the 2016 presidential election.

US special services accused Russia of meddling in US 2016 election process. US Special Counsel Robert Mueller is heading the investigation of alleged attempts of meddling, bringing charges against several Russian citizens, as well as against five Americans and one Dutch national.

US President Donald Trump and key members of his team have been repeatedly rejecting all the accusations concerning collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Moscow has also been refuting these allegations.
