Lavrov signs memorandum on cooperation with southern African states

Russia's top diplomat recalled that the previous document on cooperation was signed in 2003

MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Stergomena Lawrence Tax have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in Moscow on Tuesday, a TASS correspondent informs.

"Our meeting symbolizes a new stage in the relations between Russia and the SADC. The previous document on cooperation was signed in 2003, and in the last fifteen years, our cooperation has reached a qualitatively new level," Lavrov said. "A new, more effective quality of our cooperation is confirmed by the Russia-Africa investment forum, currently held in Moscow."

The minister reminded that a parliamentary forum and a business forum would be held in the near future, which will help expand cooperation further.

In turn, the SADC executive secretary stated that Russia and Africa have been partners for many years, and expressed a desire to achieve a new level in their relations.
