Russian, Qatari representatives hold talks on Syria

Both representatives underscored that a political solution to the conflict has no alternatives

MOSCOW, October 20. /TASS/. Russia’s delegation headed by Presidential Special Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev has discussed the Middle East issues with the Qatari government focusing on Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"The sides held detailed talks about the situation in the Middle East, focusing on the Syrian settlement," the statement says.

Russian and Qatari representatives "underscored that a political solution to the conflict has no alternatives." They expressed their support to Syria’s territorial unity and sovereignty and to further efforts against terrorism in the region.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and senior defense officials were among members of the Russian delegation.
