Diplomat: US military budget reaffirms Washington’s world domination policy

Zakharova said that Washington's actions are an obstacle to getting Russian-US relations back on track

SVETLOGORSK /Kaliningrad Region/, August 15. /TASS/. The United States’ new military budget reaffirms Washington’s policy of world domination with reliance on military force, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing on Wednesday.

"The bill on 2019 national defense spending caps the US President [Donald Trump] signed into law in fact reaffirms the policy of building up Washington’s dominating role in the world scene from the position of strength," she said.

Such a considerable increase in the US military budget will cause a negative impact on international security.

"The unprecedented inflation of the military budget to $716 billion, a record-high for the past fifteen years, is causing a destructive effect on the existing system of international security," Zakharova said. In particular, she pointed out that the budget provided for funding projects in accordance with anti-Russian and anti-Chinese guidelines identified in the national security and national defense strategies and the US Nuclear Posture Review.

Zakharova said that such measures by Washington are an obstacle to putting Russian-US relations on the constructive track and push them into a dead end.
