Russian embassy says UK authorities refusing to discuss Skripal case

The embassy says media cannot interview the Skripals without getting permission from the authorities

LONDON, August 14./TASS/. The UK authorities refuse to discuss with the Russian Embassy in London any issues regarding the poisoning of former GRU Colonel Sergey Skripal and his daughter, the embassy said on Tuesday.

"Unfortunately, we have to state that in violation of their international commitments, the UK authorities continue to behave utterly uncooperatively, refusing flatly to discuss with us any issues regarding the Skripal case," it said.

According to the embassy, Russian diplomats have referred dozens of questions to the government through the Foreign Office since the incident in Salisbury. "Formal diplomatic replies of general nature if any were given in response to our legitimate questions. In most cases, the British side has not deemed it necessary to give any answers, defying the elementary rules of diplomatic politeness," the communique said.

"Sergey and Yulia Skripal still kept isolated, out of the public eye, in an unknown location, deprived of a possibility to freely communicate and correspond with relatives, friends, journalists and Russia’s official representatives, they cannot move freely. London persists in denying us contacts with them to check whether they are not under the pressure from the authorities," it said.

"This adds to our suspicions that the Skripals were isolated under pressure or that their condition is different from what is said officially," the report said.

The embassy said "the media cannot interview the Skripals without getting permission from the authorities". "Given the information published in local press earlier that media coverage of the Skripal case is controlled by the UK National Security Council, one can say that censorship was imposed on the issue," the embassy said.
