Russia supports Jordan in its fight against terrorism

Moscow condemns the terror attack near Amman

MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS/. Moscow resolutely condemns the terror attack near Jordan’s capital city Amman and insists that it is necessary to coordinate international anti-terror efforts, the Russian foreign ministry said on Monday.

A terror attack was committed in Amman’s Fuheis neighborhood on August 10. One police officer was killed and six more were wounded as an improvised explosive device was activated near a police car.

"Following the attack, Jordanian security services conducted a special operation in the city of Salt, the administrative center of the Balqa governorate and neutralized a group of armed extremists involved in the attack on law enforcers. According to the reports coming from the site, three more law enforcers were killed and about 20 people, including civilians, received wounds when law enforcers tried to seize the building where the militants were hiding," the ministry said. "As a result of the operation, three militants were killed and five more were detained."

"We extend our condolences to the families of those killed and wish soonest recovery to those wounded," the ministry said. "Moscow resolutely condemns this terrorist attack in Jordan which graphically exposes the atrocious nature of violent radicals."

"We express our support to the government and people of friendly Jordan in their fight against the terrorist threat. This act of terror once again proves the necessity of a wide international coordination in resolute and uncompromising fight against transnational terrorist groups," the ministry stressed.
