MOSCOW, August 6. /TASS/. The statement made by Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Omelyan that Kiev is looking into the possible termination of railroad communication with Russia is absurd by definition and arises only pity, said Grigory Karasin, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, in a conversation with TASS on Monday.
"Such arguments don’t arise anything but pity in us: they are absurd by definition," the diplomat said. "They are aimed at blocking any contacts between the citizens of Ukraine and Russia."
It is "just impossible" to justify the goals of this policy conducted by Kiev, he said. "I am confident that an increasing number of Ukrainians are realizing it," the deputy minister stressed.
Omelyan earlier said on the Ukrainian TV channel 1+1 live that Ukraine’s relevant agencies are still considering the possible termination of railroad communication with Russia, despite the high profitability of this transportation. That said, routes to Russia became the most profitable for Ukraine’s railroads last year, the Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) reported on its website. The Kiev-Moscow train was ranked first, with a $5.8 million revenue.
