Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a telephone conversation with Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev

MOSCOW, July 24. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a telephone conversation with Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev ahead of his visit to Uzbekistan, the Kremlin press service said in a statement.

"The two leaders exchanged views on key cooperation issues, taking into account preparations for the Russian president’s state visit to Uzbekistan, scheduled to take place in the autumn," the statement reads.

Putin also wished Mirziyoyev a happy birthday. The Russian president sent a congratulatory message to his Uzbek counterpart earlier in the day.

Mirziyoyev, in turn, praised Russia’s hosting of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Kremlin press service added that the parties "also touched upon some pressing regional and global issues."

Uzbekistan’s president said earlier that the Russian leader’s state visit may take place in October 2018.
