MOSCOW, July 21. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held a phone conversation on ways to get relations between the two countries back to normal, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"Following the Russian-US summit in Helsinki on July 16, the two top diplomats exchanged views on prospects for future relations between our countries with the aim of normalizing them on an equal and mutually beneficial basis," the ministry said.

On July 16, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a one-day summit in Helsinki, the first full-scale bilateral meeting at this level since Trump’s election to the White House in 2016. Earlier, they had met on the sidelines of multilateral conferences. In Helsinki, the two presidents focused on bilateral and international relations. After the summit, both leaders said a big step forward had been taken.
