Russian, US security councils to have ongoing working-level dialogue — White House

US President Donald Trump earlier said officials from the two security councils will meet in continuation of discussions initiated during his talks with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki

WASHINGTON, July 17. /TASS/. The US government expects that the Russian Security Council and the United States National Security Council would establish an ongoing working-level dialogue, NSC Spokesperson Garrett Marquis told TASS on Monday.

When asked to comment on US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding planned contacts between the members of the two security councils, Marquis replied: "This has been previously discussed."

"We expect there will be ongoing working-level dialogue between the two security council staffs on national security issues," he said.

He provided no additional information, including on possible dates and venues of such meetings.

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that officials from the two security councils will meet in continuation of discussions initiated during his talks with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. He did not elaborate on details.

Late last month, US National Security Adviser John Bolton visited Moscow to meet with senior Russian officials, including Putin. The sides discussed a wide range of issues, including regional problems focusing on Syria.

According to information, obtained by TASS from official US sources, Bolton de-facto leads the Trump administration’s policies toward Russia, while US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo has been tasked with solving the North Korean denuclearization task.
