Russia, US ambassadors take part in Lavrov-Pompeo meeting

This is first personal meeting between Lavrov and Pompeo

HELSINKI, July 16. /TASS/. Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov and US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman took part in the talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, which took place on the sidelines of the Russian-US summit in Helsinki, a TASS correspondent reported.

This is first personal meeting between Lavrov and Pompeo. The details of the conversation have not been disclosed yet.

The top Russian diplomat earlier noted that the two countries’ representatives would discuss any issues they may want to raise.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump first held talks on July 7, 2017, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg. There was no full-fledged meeting between the two leaders at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Vietnam, but they talked to each other on the sidelines of the forum and approved a joint statement on Syria.
