Klimov: US accusations against Russia prior to summit aim at putting pressure on Trump

According to Andrei Klimov, the part of the US society that opposes normalized relations with Russia, fabricate those facts about Russia’s alleged meddling into election

MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. The lodging of charges of meddling in the US election against Russian citizens prior to the summit of Russian and US presidents aims at attempting to motivate Donald Trump to stick to a tougher negotiations position, which would not garner positive results, Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Foreign Affairs Committee Deputy Chairman Andrei Klimov told TASS on Saturday.

"It seems to me that it is obviously an attempt to put pressure on Mr. Trump or motivate him to take a tougher negotiation position with Putin, so that they could not find reasonable ways to continue the visible normalization of relations," he said.

The US authorities have brought charges in absentia against 12 supposed Russian military intelligence officers as part of the investigation into alleged foreign interferences into the presidential elections in 2016.

According to Klimov, the part of the US society that opposes normalized relations with Russia, fabricate those facts about Russia’s alleged meddling into election.

The meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will be held in Helsinki on July 16. The leaders of the two countries are expected to discuss a range of challenging issues.
