Putin invites Abbas to discuss bilateral, regional issues

MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin invited his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the development of bilateral relations and regional issues at a meeting on Saturday.

"We will have a chance to discuss bilateral relations and the situation in the region," Putin said, adding that he would also inform Palestinian President about Moscow’s contacts with other leaders of Middle Eastern countries.

In 2017, the trade turnover between Russia and Palestine soared by 31.7% compared with 2016 to $3 mln, of which Russian exports amounted to $2.7 mln, according to the Kremlin press service’s files. In January-April of 2018, the Russia-Palestine trade edged up by 5% year-on-year.

Russia participates in the Middle East Quartet of international mediators (Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations) of the Arab-Israeli settlement process established in 2001.
