Johnson’s resignation serves as sign of UK government crisis, diplomat says

On July 9, British Prime Minister Theresa May accepted Johnson’s resignation

MOSCOW, July 9. /TASS/. The resignation of British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson serves as a sign of a growing government crisis, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on her Facebook page.

"Do you remember that we mentioned how this dirty multi-component scheme would end badly for Theresa May’s government? Here we go. Even the British king of political eccentricity didn’t want to stay on board this sinking ship," Zakharova noted.

"Well, what do you want? It’s becoming dangerous to lie this much to the world about "the Kremlin’s hand", "aggression against Britain on Britain’s territory", "Novichok", the 2018 FIFA World Cup and so on," she continued. "One needs to argue this contrite solidarity, considering that a British citizen just dies in Amesbury. This isn’t a laughing matter for the British government now: the Skripals, Russian citizens that you can experiment on freely, are one thing, and your own people are another thing entirely."

"Taking responsibility before your own people isn’t the same as telling fairytales in NATO," the spokeswoman added.

"A lot on Downing Street is foggy, except for one thing - the outlines of a government crisis are becoming more and more pronounced," Zakharova concluded.

On July 9, British Prime Minister Theresa May accepted Johnson’s resignation. Earlier, Brexit Minister David Davis resigned over disagreements with the government's policy concerning the relations with the EU after the UK leaving the European Union.
