Kremlin: Putin, Trump may discuss cybersecurity at July 16 summit

The issues of international cybersecurity may be included in the agenda of an upcoming summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump

MOSCOW, July 6. /TASS/. The issues of international cybersecurity may be included in the agenda of an upcoming summit between Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Finland on July 16, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS on Friday.

"The issue of international cooperation for the purpose of ensuring cybersecurity has long been on the agenda," he said.

"So far, it has not found American colleagues’ understanding," the Kremlin spokesman said.

"At the same time, it cannot be ruled out that this issue will be raised at the upcoming talks between the presidents of Russia and the United States," Peskov said.

Speaking at an international congress on cybersecurity on Friday, Putin urged to work out common international rules of the game in the digital sphere that should take into account the rights and interests of all the states.

The international community has been convinced on many occasions that the egoism of some countries and their attempts to act only in their own interests harm global information stability, Putin said.

As a positive example of countries’ interaction in the cyberspace, Putin cited the experience of agreeing common rules of personal data protection between Russia and European states within the Council of Europe.

Herman Gref, the chief executive of the state-owned lender Sberbank, which arranged the international congress on cybersecurity, said he hoped that the leaders of both countries would pay attention to the struggle against cybersecurity.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov neither confirmed nor dismissed the information on the inclusion of the cybersecurity issues in the agenda of the upcoming Russia-US summit, saying he was unprepared yet to comment on this.
