Russian military warned US about strikes against Jabhat al-Nusra, diplomat says

During the attack 70 terror group members were killed

UNITED NATIONS, June 29. /TASS/. The Russian military warned the US about strikes against the Jabhat al-Nusra terror group (outlawed in Russia), Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told reporters on Friday.

"Yes, we get in touch with our American counterparts in all cases," he said answering a question from a TASS correspondent.

"We have a good, reliable deconfliction channel," he added.

"There should not be and there cannot be any clashes between us, between our and US military," Vershinin stressed. "Of course, we need to continue the fight against terrorists. We cannot leave any terrorist pockets of resistance on Syrian oil. We do that taking into account those agreements, which have been reached on Syria’s southwest."

"We cooperate with them, in particular, with regard to the de-escalation zone in southwestern Syria," he stressed.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Sides earlier reported that Jabhat al-Nusra militants attacked the inhabited communities, which voluntarily sided with Syria’s legitimate government, in the southern de-escalation zone on June 24. Government troops and Free Syrian Army units backed by the Russian Aerospace Forces foiled the terrorist offensive. During the attack, militants lost three armored vehicles, 14 pickup trucks carrying machine guns, while 70 terror group members were killed.
