SOCHI, May 14. /TASS/. The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano on Monday is important in the context of the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, Acting Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"You know about the situation linked to Washington’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, and you know about the plans of Russia and other countries - Germany, France and the United Kingdom - to remain committed to this deal," Peskov said.

"You are aware that these countries hope that Iran will remain committed to it," he said, noting that these issues were discussed at the bilateral meeting.

Earlier in the day, Putin assured Amano that Russia was fully meeting its commitments and developing its nuclear energy in strict compliance with the restrictions on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The Russian president stressed that he was glad that the IAEA was acting strictly in line with its charter and earned respect in the world due to its professionalism and impartiality.
