MOSCOW, May 14. /TASS/. Another round of talks between the top Russian and Egyptian diplomats and defense ministers will be held in Moscow on Monday. The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier reported that there will be both separate meetings and two-plus-two contacts during the consultations.
The parties are expected to exchange views on pressing regional and international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, and discuss the developments around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iran nuclear deal.
"Particular attention will be paid to the tasks of strengthening interaction between Moscow and Cairo in order to resolve crises relying on compliance with international law, respect for sovereignty of states in the region and non-interference in internal affairs," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in the run-up to the negotiations. "It is also planned to discuss further coordinated steps to counter global terrorist and extremist threats."
"Egypt is one of Russia’s leading partners in the Middle East, in the Arab world and on the African continent," the ministry stressed. "Our countries have historically been linked by friendship and mutual respect as well as multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation. [We] are committed to continuing active cooperation with friendly Egypt in international and regional affairs, developing bilateral ties and implementing large-scale joint projects in various areas.".
