Ukraine deceives countries to hold meeting on fake news at UN platform - Zakharova

The Russian diplomat added that all the links concerning Ukraine’s claims about the meeting being sponsored by the UN had been forwarded to the United Nations Department of Public Information

MOSCOW, May 12. /TASS/. Ukraine deceived participants in a meeting on fake news, claiming that the United Nations supported the event, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

According to her, she told the UN General Assembly Committee on Information that a Russian diplomat had received threats at a meeting on fake news arranged by Ukraine. "Imagine the surprise of those present when the chairman replied to my remark that the Committee on Information had not given its consent to hold such an even on its behalf," Zakharova wrote on Facebook.

The Russian diplomat added that Ukrainian representatives had tried to prove the importance of the meeting but the chairman several times pointed out to them that the Committee had not held such events. "This is a unique incident - the host of an event on unreliable information deceives its participants about the event’s official status. No one has succeeded in doing anything like that before," Zakharova noted. "In other words, the Ukrainian delegation to the United Nations managed to show to the UN Committee on Information what fake news actually is by its own activities," she added.

Zakharova also said that all the screenshots and links concerning Ukraine’s claims about the meeting being sponsored by the UN had been forwarded to the United Nations Department of Public Information.
