MOSCOW, May 8. /TASS/. Russia’s State Duma on Tuesday agreed to the appointment of Dmitry Medvedev as Russia’s prime minister, a TASS correspondent reports. Of the 433 legislators 374 voted in favor and 56 against. There were no abstentions.
Immediately after his inauguration on Monday President Vladimir Putin proposed Medvedev’s candidature for the prime minister’s seat. After that the candidate’s consultations with political factions in the State Duma followed. The United Russia and the Liberal Democrats said they supported Medvedev, while the Communists and A Just Russia party declared they would vote against.
