Kremlin doubts authenticity of number of Russians’ requests for asylum in US

According to US Citizenship and Immigration Service statistics, quoted by Radio Liberty, in just one year more than 2,500 Russians have applied for political asylum in the US

SOCHI, May 3. /TASS/. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has called in question the authenticity of US Citizenship and Immigration Service statistics, quoted by Radio Liberty, to the effect that in just one year more than 2,500 Russians (40% more than in the previous year) have applied for political asylum in the United States.

"We do not know how true they (these statistics) are," Peskov said. "In the sea of falsehoods one should be very cautious about interpreting any such figures. It is hardly possible to trust them off-hand."

Asked what Kremlin’s opinion of this information was Peskov replied curtly: "There’s none."
