Russia's top diplomat hails bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism as successful

MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Cooperation between Tehran and Moscow led to the defeat of the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia), Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on Saturday.

"We are very pleased that Iran and Russia continue cooperation in strengthening peace and security, as it will bear fruit not only in the region but also on the international stage," he said. "Our cooperation in the fight against terrorism has been successful. The defeat of the ISIL [the former name of the Islamic State - TASS] is a result of our joint actions," the Iranian foreign Minister added.

He also stressed that cooperation between Russian, Iran and Turkey in the Astana process was producing results.
