MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. The resumption of a direct inter-Korean dialogue is encouraging as there is no alternative to it, Russian Federation Council (upper house of parliament) Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Konstantin Kosachev told TASS on Friday.
"The resumption of a direct dialogue is encouraging as there is no alternative to it and attempts to talk to each other from a position of strength are bound to fail," he said.
"Clearly, it will be possible to assess the meeting’s results only when it concludes," Kosachev added.
According to the Russian senator, the meeting is unlikely to achieve breakthroughs but "hope dies last."
On Friday, the border village of Panmunjom is hosting an inter-Korean summit, the first in more than ten years. South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un spent an hour and a half at the negotiating table before taking a break. They are expected to continue their joint program shortly.
