US strike on Syria shows readiness to use force in its interests, Russian official says

MOSCOW, April 19. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary chief Nikolai Patrushev believes that by dealing an illegal strike against Syria the United States showed in reality what shifts have occurred in its foreign policy.

"In contrast to the previous one the new US national security strategy attaches high priority to the use of military force as a tool of advancing US interests in the international scene," he said at a meeting of the inter-departmental commission of the Russian Security Council devoted to strategic planning issues. "The US strategy pays special attention to ensuring domination in the global energy system and to enhancing leadership in the economic, scientific and technological spheres."

"This is seen not only in rhetoric but in real action. The missile strike against Syrian territory on April 14, which the United States, Britain and France carried out in violation of all basics of international law is a bright example of this," Patrushev said.

"Against the backdrop of US policy of isolating Russia it is essential to further search for likely ways of cooperation with other countries, without ruling a compromise with those who follow in the United States’ footsteps," he added.
