MOSCOW, April 25 (Itar-Tass) – Anatoly Chubais and his fellows, despite the mistakes they made, were bold enough to take steps to reform the Russian political and economic system, President Vladimir Putin said during a live question-and-answer session on Thursday.

“I believe that he and a number of people who worked with him made many mistakes then,” he said. “But somebody had to do what they did. They changed the entire structure of the Russian economy, they changed the development trend.”

“To my mind that could have been done differently, less harshly,” Putin said. “One had to have courage to take those steps.”
