IRKUTSK, August 25. /TASS/. Wildfires in Siberia are raging at an area of 166,000 hectares, with over 53,000 personnel involved in the firefighting effort, the head of the region’s emergencies center said on Tuesday.
"In the Siberian Federal District 115 wildfires are raging at 166,000 hectares, however, 21 wildfires on 8,000 hectares have been localized," Vladimir Svetelsky said, adding that the most difficult situation remains in the Irkutsk region and the Republic of Buryatia.
Additional equipment and forest protection specialists are arriving from other regions to help the Buryatia’s firefighters.
Firefighting brigades are supported by the aircraft of the Defense Ministry and Emergencies Ministry.
