MOSCOW, May 14. /TASS/. The number of HIV-positive Russians may reach one million by the end of this year, the head of the federal anti-AIDS centre said on Thursday.
"As of May 1, 933,400 HIV case have been officially registered in Russia," academician Vadim Pokrovsky told a news conference.
"We forecast this number to reach one million by the end of the year," he said. "If our forecasts come true, the number of HIV cases may double in one or two years."
He said most people with HIV were aged between 30-35. Sixty percent of them are or were drug addicts, Pokrovsky added.
