Magnitude 7.1 earthquake hits Nepal

The previous 7.9 magnitude earthquake and its 90 aftershocks left over 8,400 people dead and several million affected

WASHINGTON, May 12. /TASS/. Magnitude 7.1 earthquake has struck Nepal, US Geological Survey (UCGS) said on Tuesday.

The epicenter of the earthquake lay 68 km to the west of the village of Namche Bazaar at the depth of 10 km.

There have been no reports on victims or damages yet.

On April 25, the devastating 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked Nepal. Around 90 aftershocks were registered after it, with the strongest one measuring up to 6.9. According to the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC), at least 6.6 million citizens have been affected by the disaster.

According to the latest data, the death toll of the disaster has exceeded 8,400 people, while more than 17,000 others were injured. Two Russian diplomats were killed in the strongest earthquake in the last 80 years. More than 191,000 houses were destroyed in the disaster, while 175,000 more were seriously damaged.
