Swiss solar-powered plane takes off for first round-the-globe flight

The journey will take around five months, and the plane is expected to cover 35,000 kilometers

ABU DHABI, March 9. /TASS/. The Swiss Solar Impulse 2 solar-powered plane has started on its journey around the world from the capital of the United Arab Emirates. 

The journey will take around five months, and the plane is expected to cover 35,000 kilometers. 

Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard will take turns to perform the pilot diuties.

The first leg to Oman is expected to be reached in 12 hours. Modern passenger jets cover the distance from Abu Dhabi to Oman in one hour.
