Over 40 million Russian holiday-makers chose domestic destinations in 2014

The demand for foreign trips had fallen by 30-50% by the start of 2015, while domestic tourism grew by 30%, head of the Federal Tourism Agency Oleg Safonov said

MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. More than 40 million Russians chose domestic vacation destinations last year, the head of the Federal Tourism Agency said on Wednesday.

Oleg Safonov said that the demand for foreign trips had fallen by 30-50% by the start of 2015, while domestic tourism grew by 30%.

"In 2014, the domestic tourism flow reached 41.5 million people, while in 2013, according to the Federal Statistics Service, the figure was 32 million," he said.

The domestic tourism flow was expected to reach 40 million by 2018 under the federal target program for the development of tourism, he added. "As you see, we've achieved this goal already in 2015," Safonov said.
