Body of deceased Russian opera singer Elena Obraztsova taken to Moscow from Leipzig

Famous Russian opera singer died on Monday in Berlin from a serious illness

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. The body of famous Russian opera singer Elena Obraztsova, who died in Germany at the age of 75, has been taken to Moscow by a Russian emergenices ministry’s plane, a spokesman for the ministry’s national crisis management centre told TASS on Wednesday.

“The plane arrived from Leipzig and landed at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport at 00:07 a.m. Moscow time. Onboard are Elena Obraztsova’s family members who were accompanied by rescuers, psychologists and medics,” the spokesman said.

Elena Obraztsova died on Monday in Berlin from a serious illness. Visitation will be on Wednesday at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.

Obraztsova, a mezzo-sporano, was widely recognized as one of the world's greatest opera singers.

Obraztsova, who was born in 1939 in Leningrad (now St.Petersburg), appeared in some 100 opera roles.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to the singer's family and fans, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said.
