MOSCOW, November 3. /TASS/. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said on Monday the Russian world and its values unite different peoples of historical Rus regardless political preferences and state borders.
“The Russian culture is one of the foundations that unite the peoples of historical Rus,” Patriarch Kirill said in his address to participants in the 8th Russkiy Mir (Russian World) Assembly.
The Assembly has opened in Sochi and included over 800 representatives of the Russian-speaking communities from 81 countries.
“The Russian world does not go beyond state borders. This is centuries-long experience for understanding the principles of existence by the peoples, searching for the higher truth and seeking to establish traditional moral principles in personal and public life,” the patriarch said.
The choice made by Saint Prince Vladimir, Equal of the Apostles, who baptized the Rus in 988, “mainly facilitated the formation of our culture”, he said.
“This event has determined the vector of spiritual and cultural development of the people, who joined in the treasury of Byzantine-Hellenic civilization, for centuries,” Patriarch Kirill said.
The 8th Russkiy Mir Assembly is planning to focus on the state regulation of the Russian language, the creation of Russian schools abroad and disputes between Westernizers and Slavophiles. The forum will last till November 4.
The Russkiy Mir Foundation was founded by the Russian president’s decree of June 21, 2007. Its purpose is to popularize the Russian language and to support programs for learning it in different countries.
