Bill Gates tops Forbes’ list of 400 richest people in America

His friend legendary investor Warren Buffett is the second richest American on the list with a net worth of $67 billion

NEW YORK, September 29. /ITAR-TASS/. Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has retained his number one position in the Forbes’ annual list of the 400 richest Americans for the 21st consecutive year.

Gates, a Harvard dropout with a net worth of $81 billion, is the wealthiest American on the list of the nation’s 400 super rich who have a combined net worth of $2.29 trillion.

His friend, legendary investor Warren Buffett, chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, is the second richest American on the list with a net worth of $67 billion.

Larry Ellison, founder and chief executive officer of Oracle Corp., who announced recently he was stepping down from that job, rounded out the top three with a net worth of$50 billion

The combined net worth of the 2014 class of the 400 wealthiest Americans is $2.29 trillion, up $270 billion from a year ago, according to Forbes.
