MOSCOW, July 23. /ITAR-TASS/. Offshore scientific joint venture of Russia’s major oil company Rosneft and the US oil and gas company ExxonMobil will monitor the sea fauna of the Northern Sea Route in Rosneft licensed blocks in 2014, the Russian company said.

Several groups of observers on two icebreakers will collect information about the local fauna to provide a comprehensive picture of the initial environmental conditions that will be a basis for protection measures during hydrocarbon exploration and production. The researchers will observe sea mammals in all Polar seas over the period of ship pilotage, from July through October of 2014, monitoring and registering the fauna activity during the light day.
