Bear bites off hand of 5-year-old girl in Russia’s Rostov region

The girl shoved her hand through the cage with the animal, which was kept on the territory of a recreation facility

ROSTOV-ON-DON, June 25. /ITAR-TASS/. A bear has bitten off the hand of a five-year-old girl at a recreation facility in Russia’s Rostov region. The victim has been rushed to hospital, according to the Investigative Directorate of Russia’s Investigative Committee in this region. The incident took place in the Cossak village of Melikhovskaya, Ust-Donetsky district.

“A bear is kept on the territory of the recreation facility. The cage is surrounded with a metallic grid that has an aperture sized 89x74 cm that allows approaching the cage with the animal. According to preliminary reports, a 5-year-old daughter of an employee of the recreation facility shoved her hand through this aperture into the cage, and the predator bit off her hand,” the investigation reported.

A criminal case under article ‘Providing of services not complying with safety requirements that led by inadvertency to grievous bodily harm’ has been filed.

The investigators are establishing the circumstances of the legality of keeping a wild animal on the territory of the recreation facility.
