Ambassador awards high Russian award to celebrated fashion designer Pierre Cardin

World famous fashion designer Pierre Cardin has been awarded the Russian Order of Friendship for helping develop Russia's scientific and economic potential, reach mutual understanding and promote friendly contacts between people of different nationalities

PARIS, June 25. /ITAR-TASS/. World famous fashion designer Pierre Cardin has been awarded the Russian Order of Friendship - a high state award given to prominent Russian and foreign citizens who help develop Russia's scientific and economic potential, reach mutual understanding and promote friendly contacts between people of different nationalities.

Russian ambassador to France Alexander Orlov handed the prestigious award to Pierre Cardin at a gala ceremony held at the Russian Embassy in Paris on Tuesday.

Addressing the laureate of the prestigious award, the Russian ambassador said that "the award goes to Pierre Cardin as a tribute for his contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between Russia and France.”

Pierre Cardin told ITAR-TASS that he had first been to Moscow almost half a century ago. He has returned to Moscow for more than three dozen times since, Cardin said. He was proud to say that prominent people in Russia’s art and culture, such as ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, composer Rodion Shchedrin and other prominent representatives of Russian culture are his close friends.

Pierre Cardin began his career in "haute couture" at the age of 14, when he was a mere trainee at a dressmaker's. Cardin is the author of "pret-a-porter" concept which brought a democratic style to the world fashion designs. Pierre Cadin is a goodwill ambassador at UNESCO.
