SIMFEROPOL, March 14, /ITAR-TASS/. A baby with a congenital heart disease was taken from a Simferopol hospital to Saint Petersburg, the chief doctor at the Crimean central clinic for children, Alexander Astakhov, told reporters on Friday.
A 12-month-old baby, Aziz, with a congenital heart disease needed an urgent operation. Usually, such children were sent on a regular flight to Kiev. On Thursday, in talks with the Russian Health Ministry, the decision was made to airlift the child to Saint Petersburg.
A plane arrived on Thursday and took the child to Saint Petersburg. The baby was being prepared for surgery. Without an operation he would not survive, Astakhov said.
It was the first positive step of cooperation, he noted, expressing the hope such work to save lives of children would continue.
