Russian ministry of culture to allocate RUB 1 bln to replenish museum collections in 2014

MOSCOW, February 27, /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s ministry of culture plans to allocate one billion roubles (about 27.2 million U.S. dollars) to replenish museum collections in 2014, Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky said on Wednesday at a meeting of the ministry’s board.

He stressed that it was an unprecedented sum. “Funds to buy works of art will be allocated from the federal budget. We have never had such a sum,” he said.

Irina Antonova, President of Moscow’s Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, heads the procurement committee.
