Three Olympic villages to open in Sochi

SOCHI, January 30, (ITAR-TASS). Three Olympic villages - the Primorskaya, Gornaya and Dopolnitelnaya residential compounds located within a walking distance from sports facilities of the mountainous and coastal clusters - will officially open in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi that will host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games next month, the Sochi 2014 organizing committee said.

The compounds will become home for 6,700 athletes from different countries, the committee told an Itar-Tass correspondent.

The main Olympic village, Primorskaya, is designed to accommodate 3,000 people. It will house hockey players, figure skaters, curlers and speed skaters, who will compete for medals in ice sports palaces. The modern compound includes 50 buildings and consists of 1,500 one-, two-, three- and four-room apartments with panoramic views of the sea, mountains and the Olympic park.

Another village, Gornaya, for 2,600 people, is situated at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level on the Roza Khutor plateau. It will accommodate alpine skiers, snowboarders and freestylers, who will reside at the same altitude as they will train. The compound consists of 50 buildings. Rooms have panoramic views of mountains.

The third village, Dopolnitelnaya, is designed for 1,100 people. It contains a hotel compound, apartment hotels and a cottage settlement. The area is an autonomous compound with its own infrastructure: parking lots, a shopping mall, an Internet cafй, a canteen, a gym, a fitness center and a clinic.

After the Olympic Games that will run February 7-23, all Olympic villages will be converted to apartment hotels or will become part of ski resorts.
