US wins in World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Canada, Russia wins bronze

OTTAWA, January 05, 6:02 /ITAR-TASS/. The United States has won the gold medal in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, defeating 4-0 Canada Pacific in the final match in Canada on Saturday. The Russian U-17 squad has won the bronze medal, beating 6-2 Canada Quebec.

Yuri Rumyantsev’s squad has lost 1-5 to the U.S. in the first match at the group stage, then beat 7-2 Germany, defeated Canada Ontario, outshooting them 6-5 and won 5-3 in a match with Canada Atlantic. Russia has lost 3-7 to Canada Pacific in the semifinals.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge held in Canada since 1986 passed in Sydney and Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, this time.

The Russian U-17 team has won the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2012, defeating the U.S. in the final match. In the previous year Russia has won the silver medal, losing to Sweden.
