KAZAN, December 30, 1:55 /ITAR-TASS/. The Republic of Tatarstan will greet the Torch of the Sochi-2014 Winter Olympic Games on Monday. Within two days, the Torch will be carried via three cities: Bolgar, Sviayzhsk, and Kazan.
The relay will involve 370 torchbearers, and the overall length of the route will be 59.5 km.
There will be the following persons among participants in the relay-race: Nikolai Nikiforov, RF Minister of Communications and Mass Media, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin, singer Dina Garipova, conductor Alexander Sladkovsky, Vassily Mosin, bronze medallist of the London Olympics in trap-shooting, female athlete Yelena Migunova, and markswoman Svetlana Dyomina.
Tatarstan's phase of the relay-race will begin at 11:30, Moscow time, in Bolgar. Over there, the Torch will be lit byTatarstan's First President Mintimet Shaimiyev, on whose initiative the ancient settlement Bolgar -- a monument of culture and architecture -- is being restored. The symbol of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games will be carried past the Memorial Mark, the White Mosque, and the Museum of Bread and to the central square of Bolgar.
Then the Torch will be airlifted by helicopter to the island city of Sviyazhsk. The relay will travel around the island and then the Torch will be airlifted to Kazan for a night at the Universiade Village.
On December 31, theTorch will be carried via all the landmarks of the capital of the republic, including the Kazan Kremlin and Kazan Federal University. The destination of the relay-race will be the Kazan-Arena stadium where mass New-Year merrymaking will take place.
A Olympic Torch Bowl will be presented to Kazan and will remain in the city for perpetual storage.
From Kazan, the Olympic Torch relay-race will proceed on its way to Izhevsk. The phase of the relay-race in the capital of Udmurtia will begin on January 2.
